About Earwigs
There’s no science that suggests that earwigs will physically harm humans. They do have pincers, but earwigs use them to protect themselves from enemies and for courting a mate. If an earwig feels in danger, it may pinch a human with its pincers, but the pinch barely hurts.
Earwigs are, however, annoying pests. They like the dark. When the sun is bright or your indoor lights are shining, earwigs hide. When night comes and the light goes away, they come out and look for food, usually eating other insects, moist rotting plants, and even crumbs of human food. One other aggravation is the earwig’s odor. They eat rotten food, and sometimes they smell like something rotten too. Earwigs have scent glands that emit a disgusting smell, which is especially evident if you crush an earwig. Who wants bugs making a stench in their home?
